Introduction:

Bangladesh Garments Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) started its journey in the year of 1989 in the name of Bangladesh Corrugated Carton & Accessories Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BCCAMEA) on 4th June 1991 bearing registration no. CTO 290(02)/91 and registered with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies & Firms, Bangladesh. It’s established and regulated under The Trade Organization Ordinance, 1961 and Companies Act, 1913 (Amended in 1994). The association is affiliated with The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI). It’s an Executive member of Asian Packaging Federation (APF).

It is the prime trade organization to safeguard the interest of garments accessories & packaging manufacturers & exporters of the country and represents about 2,000 Garments Accessories & Packaging industries of the country. This sector earned about US$ 7.5 billion (deemed & direct export) for the country during the year 2021-22, out of which about US$ 1.0 billion was direct export. Our exported countries are Netherlands, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Middle East, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Italy, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Germany, Austria etc. Investment of this sector is about US$ 4.2 billion and value addition is about 40%. It is the first backward linkage industry of RMG sector. Our export target is earmarked US$ 12.00 billion by the year end of 2025. More than 0.7 million employees are working in this sector of whom 20% are women.
